GENE-rations Lyrics – Chael Blinya
Singer: Chael Blinya
Title: GENE-rations
Free verse
Yea, uhuh
Ain’t it, ain’t it?
Gene-rations
I’ve been climbing this ladder for a long while
Don’t get it twisted like double helix
Spitting with felix had me addicted
To the culture and shoulders froze colder as i predicted
Fall off october, relation faded, folks got evicted
That’s paraplegic, partly anemic somewhat sad#stic
Inflicted pain, ironed out issues hurtful to moi
Impossible to kick it
Marcin grammatica targeting gattaca
To get every extra point across
Garden of pea plants mendel would be impressed with
We sowing seeds only worth being dissected
Got gifted dreams, worth nothing but still accepted
We always see plant students inherit connections
From south tampa nested uh
Handed batons in a residential gated
Adt protected on front lawn perfected
While backyard needs checking
Unnaturally selected like voter suppression
Been on the fence while they white picket protesting
Plugged in till outlets became politically charged
See i wanna join the movement but unsure who’s on the ballot
And voting ain’t a challenge, just an optical illusion
Cause the ones who stand in line ain’t the same that take a stand
And those who take stands love to jump to conclusions
With chest out like hooters these rubber shooters attack us uh
Uh, and don’t apologize after
Believed before my generation’s moving backwards
A common man like them whitehouse staffers
During spoils system jackson was crooked, we overlooked it
Destroyed the bus so we wouldn’t throw him under it
Uh yea, but in amadeus we trust
Uh i ain’t rushing to climb this ladder either
To relinquish footing will have me sliding down chutes
Long as i don’t look down i’ll be fine
But if i do i might fall victim to troupes
Slip, fall, & drown in genetic pool of alleles
Full chromosomes that’s gender fluid
I’m too clever, should’ve studied sex cells
Cause what sells better than sex? nothing ever
Uh and i’m still up on this ladder
To wander under brings generational curses
Generational debt i refuse to be imbursed with
Generational wealth for all my nieces & nephews
Next of kin provider when refuge is what they seek
Tell em not to worry when world doesn’t accept you
Who cares? no two n#gg#s have the same two n#gg# hairs
But grandma’s does compare in texture, we’re the same
Nappy like valentina’s surname
Became lost when i started growing my mane
In other words i was stranded but why complain?
Protective styling my natural, getting closer to roots
My grandma was maya angelou too
Heard cage bird spent time singing in ghana
Now sister little is name sake of both
Christiana worked with lebanese wearing wigs weaves
Met grandpa at ambassador hotel
Was paralyzed waist down after his prime
Since he couldn’t, imma climb
So while climbing up please don’t get it twisted
My follicles are nautical thank god for these inches
Thank god for pigment, thank god for existence
Thank god for fiifi wilson aka my uncle nicholas
Tips of each two strand twist mimics a double helix
The higher i climb, eye-line tampa skyline
The more i twist grid lines start to exist
Section 8 parting hair, city scape parted scalps
Oiling 4c, foreseeing the turmoil through redevelopment plans
If humidity causes coil then blood is bound to boil, oh yes it is
Witnessed section 8 tenants exiled by middlemen
Learned bout the law of attraction blocks down from middleton
I knew people who new people, who used people
Some cool people abused people, who used needle
To stitch stories together
Two strand threaded narratives, for worse & better
Yea, without f#cking with the fabric of time uh
Can’t be f#cking with the fabric of time during this climb
It’s a miracle that we’re still alive, that we survived
Though they gerrymandered all of our tribes, apartheid
Gentrified by whites who took flight, got redlined
Stop f#cking with the mothaf#ckin fabric of time
Chorus
Couple punnet squares peaking out my folder
They don’t care if i’m getting older
I’ve been growing my hair down & towards shoulder
Ladders couldn’t compare climbing getting closer
I belong to the cul-de-sac
Oh suburbia ghetto your story don’t end with me
Land of multiple cultures
Oh suburbia ghetto your story don’t end with me
Couple punnet squares hanging out my folder
They don’t care if im getting older
I’ve been growing my hair twisting getting closer
Ladders couldn’t compare
They ain’t f#cking with my gene-rations
Ou nah nah nah
No you ain’t f#cking with me or my gene-rations uh
Ou nah nah nah
No you ain’t f#cking with me
Couple punnet squares peaking out my folder
They don’t care if im getting older
I’ve been growing my hair (2x)
Poem 1
We see what we see but we did not see
No we did not see, we saw
Found balance in a seesaw
Though fulcrums weren’t as wholesome as you once were
All i asked of you is to meet me half way
Yet you refuse to listen
But did a great job convincing
Me that you is who i am lesser than
Never mind you wouldn’t understand
Dialougue
Now that was beautiful but trust me
We have alot more in common than you think
Nah i doubt that, who are you anyway?
Poem 2
I am everything you are but afraid to become
I am old money making new wealth
I’ll wash these streets like dirty dead presidents
Leave green gutter water dancing down sidewalks
But no roses grow from this concrete
I’ve sealed all the cracks
Lined them with pesticides
After chasing out all of the vermin
Only strange fruit will bloom on these corners
Bury their bones all over the front yard
Then build an apartment complex over their graves
Bleached red lines still leave stains
But are hard to see underneath the starbucks
Underneath the white wash
I am shooting star mirage
In food desert skies
Swallow your black business whole and
Spit out whole foods
Watch as i turn hood to hipster
Turn your poverty into a novelty
Foreclose your family home and
Force you out with no time for closure
Then graffiti your culture on the walls
Only to call it mine
Dialougue
Well damn
That was a bit much but you didn’t answer the question
Exactly who are you?
Like, what the f#ck do you want?
You’ve been all over the place
I don’t quite get what you’re doing here
Well b#tch, if you must know
I recently lost my job
Dropped out of college
My car got totaled, while it was getting towed
Then michael got killed, whoever that is
Hey, have you ever thought about refinancing?
Well never mind that
Anyway, my wife left me
She cheated on me with my best-friend’s best-friend
You think you know a guy, i thought i was his best friend
And to make matters worse, i stubbed my pinky toe this morning
Around last week i almost got arrested for tax evasion
But, one good thing did happen
My uncle died
And i was his next of kin
Hi, i’m gerry, gerry roundings
I’m your new landlord
Good to officially meet you but i need you out now
