Sound Of The Drums Lyrics – Lindon
Singer: Lindon
Title: Sound Of The Drums
When my daddy was growing up he was dirt poor
8 kids in one room sleeping on the floor
Same clothes everyday, yeah that’s all he wore
Rain coming through the roof when it started to pour
Some nights he didn’t eat cause he couldn’t afford
Plus he lived on top of a mountain that’s far from the stores
No car so he used to walk back and forth
This was way before Yugoslavia had wars
Things started getting worse and harder to ignore
Tired of the struggle, last resort
Heard about America and wanted to explore
So he lеft his family and headed to New York
US back in thе 80’s was immigrants galore
You can’t really blame him, he just wanted more
Found a job started paying bills with no support
His trust in God is the only thing that kept him sure
That’s the sound that the drummer boy makes on his drum
It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer boy make on his drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer boy makes on his drum It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer boy make on his drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
Back when my mama was a child things were difficult
Girls and women barely had rights, they were miserable
On top of that physical abuse was typical
At times she was ignored, feeling invisible
Poor living conditions that weren’t livable
House made out of rocks, no residual income
So she prayed for a miracle
Never had much and if so it was minimal
What’s about to happen next was unpredictable
A family member came to get her, both her brothers too
Brought them to America, out of the blue
Living in New York, adjusting to the new environment
Got a job, made some revenue
Just enough to get by and make it through
Cook, clean, work everyday, that’s all she would do
Her faith in God is the only reason she kept her cool
That’s the sound that the drummer girl makes on her drum
It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer girl make on her drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer girl makes on her drum
It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer girl make on her drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
My folks came a long way figuratively and literally
From Europe to the Bronx met each other coincidentally
Got married moved in together started a family
But It wasn’t easy a lot of responsibilities
Paying the bills, helping to support their relatives back home
Never took out a loan and still managed to make ends meat
That’s the true definition of living the American dream
God gives grace to the humble
Which explains why, they made it out the struggle
Cause anytime things got tough
They remained grateful and didn’t give up
Moral of the story, what you keep is all you have
What you give God multiplies, do the math
So everybody grab your drum
And play along to this song Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer boy makes on his drum
It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer girl make on her drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer boy makes on his drum
It goes Ra Pa Pam Pam Pam
That’s the sound that the drummer girl make on her drum
Pa Ra Pa Pam Pam
Yeah
I love you Mom and Dad
I hope I’m making you proud
