Lyrics Mo Khan – Life of a Refugee

Life of a Refugee Lyrics – Mo Khan

Singer: Mo Khan
Title: Life of a Refugee

We took a road that we didn’t choose
Leaving behind our life and our youth
We grew up fast with nothing to lose
We made the best from what we could do

Made out to be some kind of disease
How we’re portrayed on your TV screen
Think you could walk a mile in my feet
Living the life of a refugee!

Imagine your life and your home, came under attack
Imagine everything you’d known, was gone in a flash
Can you imagine the impact, this trauma would have?
Crying everyday because you just, wanna go back

Now imagine if half of everyone, that you know, died
And the other half, were displaced with no place to reside
Dreaming about yesterday, the best days of your life
But waking up to a nightmare, as today your deprived

Many had no choice but to run, tired and alone
Hearing all the noise from the gun – fire, bombs and drones
Clear from this point forward, there’s no more home
No more family time, eating together at the table

Just more gambling lives, by those in power who enable
Sacrificing civilians for illegal agendas
They’re displacing a million from their egregious vendettas
Only by uniting as people, can we stop an evil so horrendous

We took a road that we didn’t choose
Leaving behind our life and our youth
We grew up fast with nothing to lose
We made the best from what we could do

Made out to be some kind of disease
How we’re portrayed on your TV screen
Think you could walk a mile in my feet
Living the life of a refugee!

1989, I was born into this world
Who knew that I’d grow, to paint pictures with my words
Child of Somalia, hooyo didn’t know that home
And the city that we lived, would become a war zone

1991, now only 2 years old
Our home was no more and the streets were too cold
Who knows where we’d go, but God knows we were fighters
Buried some of our people, before walking for miles

On a path to freedom, with only hope and a child
Pain was getting deeper, feet we’re getting tired
But she never stopped believing, praying that every mile
Would bring us closer to peace and, a new home for her child. (12)

We had homes and family
Beautiful communities
Now just hope and shattered dreams
Yesterday we lived in peace

But today we’re on the streets
Where is all humanity?
We took a road that we didn’t choose
Leaving behind our life and our youth

We grew up fast with nothing to lose
We made the best from what we could do
Made out to be some kind of disease
How we’re portrayed on your TV screen

Think you could walk a mile in my feet
Living the life of a refugee!
