STORY OF A DEAD POET Lyrics – PHOENIX JAMES

Singer: PHOENIX JAMES
Title: STORY OF A DEAD POET

Dead ink
Far too lifeless to lift its page
Was performed by one
Who was far too dull

To light the stage
Lacking substance
Too weak to move the crowd
Proceeded to raise them up

But only brought them down
Abuse echoed from the audience
Among faces unimpressed
One voice shouted

Rubbish
While another said
Give it a rest
But as if unaware or unconcerned

The poet continued to recite
Taking pride in his poor pathetic piece
That took so long to write
He stood bold and direct

Like a brave soldier
Against an army as he read
Expecting glorification
But was ridiculed instead

And the collar of his creased chequered shirt
That obviously hadn’t been washed for a while
Only added to the cramping of his credibility
And style

They began to bombard him with beer mats
Ice cubes and bottle tops
It was more than his heart could bare
So he decided to stop

With his head hung low
Discouraged and disheartened
He stepped down from the stage and left
He said to a lady on his way out

I really thought this was my best
I thought I had a vibe going
I really did but
I guess all I did was spoil it

They found his poem on the floor by the bar
And his body hanging dead
In the toilet
