The wolf slipped through the trees
And stopped when he was near the fire
A man carried a woman
Unawakened, dirty, injured

The raven yelled at the wolf, warning him
It was too late when the wolf realized
His paw had been caught in a bear trap
The wolf howled in pain, and the raven watched, weeping
The man was startled by the howling
And then he took his gun out of the truck
The wolf struggled to break free
But his paw was stuck, spurting blood
The poor animal shrieked in pain
Not being able to stand still, the raven flew into the man’s face
Just when he was going to pull the trigger

The raven pecked the man’s eyes until they began to spurt blood
He staggered, screaming in pain, and tripped over a rock
The man fell, hitting his head on a boulder
Liters of blood spilled through the bush
The wolf howled in thanks, in thanks
